Use the Story Board:
Model language from the book by pointing to words as they come up in the story.
Adjust the amount of words you point to depending on the language level of the child.
Model single words (plums), noun phrases (3 plums), sentences (He ate 3 plums), expanded sentences (On Tuesday he ate through 3 plums)
Ask Who? When? How Many? and What? Questions!
Use the Sentence Strips to Expand Utterances:
"He ate through ___" with the food cards
"He ate through ___ ___" with the number and food cards
>Use the "through" cue card to target this preposition throughout the book!
>When you reach “Saturday” in the story, use the “Saturday” Sequence Board to demonstrate putting the foods in the same order as the story. Then mix up the foods and have your child sequence the foods.
>After reading, use the “Caterpillar Change” Sequence Board to talk about how the character changed throughout the story. Then have your child sequence the pictures. Practice using the sequence words at the top of the page.
