Core Vocabulary refers to the relatively small number of words (200-400) that make up 80% of what we say! Targeting these words will help children communicate more effectively.
Core Vocabulary can be Color Coded according to their Part of Speech:
Pronouns-Yellow
Verbs-Green
Adjectives-Blue
Prepositions and Social- Pink
Questions- Purple
Nouns- Orange
Interrogatives and Negation- White
For Beginners! Start off small and work with one word/concept at a time and slowly build bigger messages. Model, Model, Model! Use the board yourself to communicate first by pointing to key words WHILE you are speaking.
